Wayne Brown, 76, of Winner, SD, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. at the Winner United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will begin Monday, March 15 from 4-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Mason Funeral in Winner.

Wayne F. Brown was born Jan. 3, 1934 to Mabel (Cornemann) and William Brown. He was raised on a farm near Paxton, SD and was one of eight kids. When he was a teenager, the family moved to Winner where he attended Winner school until the 9th grade.

Wayne served in the Army for 2 years and returned to Winner, SD. On Aug. 9, 1959 Wayne married Delores McCabe in Casper, WY. During their 39 years together, Wayne and Delores lived in Casper, WY; Winner, Lennox, and Rapid City, SD. They raised six children together. Delores passed away in 1998.

Wayne worked in many career fields in his life including bartending, farming, and auto mechanics. His passion was working on all kinds of vehicles, including stock cars, and he was an auto mechanic for over 40+ years. Upon returning to the Winner area in 1989, Wayne owned and operated his own shop, Brownies Auto.

Wayne loved to work on cars, play pitch and enjoyed all types of stock car races. He spent many years working on stock cars, racing and helping others with their stock cars. He liked to discuss politics, sports, racing and many other hot topics over coffee and cards. Wayne formed many friendships over the years and always had a great memory for names, faces and details. He especially loved to visit with family and friends, and spent the last several years enjoying all of his grandkids in sports and school events. Wayne traveled to many cities and places over the years and never met a stranger – he always seemed to know someone! His stories usually resulted in lots of laughter and some embarrassment.

Wayne is survived by his children Cindi (Paul) Colvin, Kasson, MN; Steve (Nicole Shutt) Brown, Winner, SD; Sandy (John) DeMers, Winner, SD; Linda (Phil) Husher, Winner, SD; Misty (Mike) Welter, Presho, SD; Tracey (Chris) Pelchat, Johnson, NE; and Connie Musilek, Tucson, AZ. Grandchildren: Benjamin and Adam Colvin; Ashley (Royce) Robbins, Katlyn, Sean and Cassie Brown; Chas, Haley, and Drew DeMers; Amanda, Anthony, and Sara Husher; Kimberly, Jessica, and Kyle Welter; Mason, Allyson and Lauren Pelchat. Great-grandchildren: Bradyn and Rylan Robbins; and Pierce Brown. Sisters: Leitha Drey and Shirley Ann Beck; and brother, Jim (Delores) Brown; sister-in-laws Bonnie Brown, Mary Brown, Anna Mae Brown, Maureen Brown, Norma Jean New, Helen (Roger) Turnquist, and special friends Kent and Terri Plimpton, Kolby, Kelsey, Kayla, and Tiffany; and many family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his wife Delores; brothers Rex, Louie, Russ and Gary; brother-in-laws Emmett Beck, Vernon Drey; and parents Mabel and William Brown.
